9/1 – David Banner from Tolou Shokuhfar’s lab received the M&M student award of $1,000 from the Microscopy and Microanalysis Society for his work titled “Synthesis and Characterization of Paramagnetic Iron Nanoparticles with Minimal Gold Coating for Optimal Drug Delivery.”

7/20 – Alex Leow, associate professor of psychiatry and bioengineering, is quoted in an article in The Daily Dot on the use of smartphone apps to help track mood disorders. Leow is team leader for BiAffect, a study that uses a smartphone’s keyboard to track and predict mood episodes in bipolar disorder.
