Biomaterials in Barcelona Heading link
The College of Engineering and Study Abroad Office are excited to launch the Biomaterials in Barcelona study abroad program for Summer 2024. The program is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the latest developments in the field of implantable biomaterials. The program’s coursework covers a wide range of topics related to biomaterials, including the properties of biomaterials, their interactions with biological systems, and their applications in medical devices and implants. Visits to key biomaterial industry sites, such as the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park, will provide students with practical exposure to industry experts and contacts.
Key Details:
- Dates: June 3-21, 2024
- Earn 5 UIC credits while studying abroad in Barcelona
- Academic visits include: Barcelona Institute of Global Health, Institute for Research in Biomedicine, Biomedical research Park, and more
- Cultural visits include: day trips to Sitges and Girona, guided tour of the Sagrada Familia, Spanish and Catalan cooking class, and more
- Program fee: $4,985 – this includes your UIC credits, housing, local transportation, program activities, and health insurance
- Students can apply for study abroad scholarships and use financial aid

University of Galway Exchange Program Heading link
UIC’s College of Engineering and Study Abroad Office are excited to launch an exchange program between UIC and the University of Galway in Ireland. The university has earned international recognition as a research-led university with a commitment to top-quality teaching.
This program is open to rising juniors and seniors in biomedical engineering. Applications for the fall 2024 semester are due by Sunday, March 10. If accepted, University of Galway applications are due by April 30. Orientation begins September 7, and classes begin September 9. Exams end on December 20.
Key Details:
- Dates: Fall 2024 and/or Spring 2025
- Cost will be comparable to a semester at UIC
- Students can apply for study abroad scholarships and use financial aid
- Earn UIC credits while studying abroad in Galway, Ireland
- S. citizens will need a visa for this program if staying over 90 days.
- Students will live in apartments on the University of Galway campus
- Cultural visits include: social societies, King Fisher Club, and monthly campus events
