Esmailbeigi wins Global Engagement Award

Richard and Loan Hill Department of Biomedical Engineering Clinical Associate Professor Hananeh Esmailbeigi recently received the 2024 Piergiorgio L.E. Uslenghi Global Engagement Faculty Award.
This award recognizes UIC faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to the UIC’s global engagement. It seeks to recognize those faculty whose contributions have been made beyond their essential responsibilities as faculty members. In addition, the award seeks to recognize contributions to global engagement that significantly impact students’ development.
She was awarded for her research collaborations and teaching efforts with Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI). Through the double degree program with POLIMI, she has mentored 10 double degree MS students’ theses at UIC and Polimi.
She has also spent two summers working at POLIMI on a research collaboration project with POLIMI Professor at the Department of Electronics, Information, and Bioengineering Andrea Aliverti. The project has led to the filing of a patent and the advising of two Polimi MS students. She also taught a two-week course on wearable technology for PhD students. The course provided practical experience in designing and developing wearable and smart devices.
The award is named after long-time UIC College of Engineering Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Distinguished Professor Emeritus Piergiorgio L.E. Uslenghi. Uslenghi is credited with establishing the partnership with POLIMI.
