Title: Time harmonic elastography from micro scales to in vivo organs

Abstract: Elastography is biomechanical imaging for clinical diagnosis. It remotely palpates soft tissues and organs by shear waves, acquires tissue deflections with magnetic resonance imaging or sonography, and converts wave images into maps of stiffness and viscosity. These key elements of elastography open windows into the biophysics of soft tissue in humans. Many fundamental pathological processes such as inflammation, fibrosis, tumor growth, or malignant transformation are influenced or triggered by altered mechanical properties of cells or the extracellular matrix. After an introduction into the key concepts of elastography, this talk will focus on the exploration of biomechanical signatures of pathophysiological processes in micro-samples, in vivo animal models up to patients - all investigated with time-harmonic waves over a broad spectrum of frequencies from 1 to 10,000 Hz.
