Title: Virtual Reality-Based, Automated Mobility Training Program for Individuals with Low Vision
Abstract: Individuals with low vision (severe irreversible impairment of vision) can regain functional independence and high quality of life through visual rehabilitation training. Some of the trainings, such as mobility (independent navigation of outdoor environment), can be dangerous and require the presence of a certified specialist for training and safety reasons. This requirement severely limits the accessibility and affordability of this valuable service. Our approach to overcome this barrier is to train low vision individuals using an intelligent mobility trainer in a safe virtual environment.
