Title: Understanding diseases through gene correlational network

Abstract: In this Big Data era with the fast accumulation of high-throughput omic data, there is an urgent needs for reliable and robust method to decrease data dimensionality, integrate data from multiple sources, and identify hidden molecular connections for human diseases. In this talk, I will introduce our research on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases using gene correlational networks to integrate multiple transcriptomic datasets to identify disease biomarkers, novel disease genes and pathways. This approach is also applied to Alzheimer’s disease brain, to characterize the underlying cellular-composition induced transcriptomic changes, and identify AD specific coexpression modules which may lead to potential therapeutical targets.
