Dai to serve as CBQB interim director

Yang Dai

Richard and Loan Hill Professor Yang Dai has been named the interim director of the Center for Bioinformatics and Quantitative Biology (CBQB).

Dai is an affiliate and co-founding member of CBQB and recently took over the interim position after the passing of the late Richard and Loan Hill Professor and UIC Distinguished Professor Jie Liang in December 2024.

Liang was the architect and founding director of the CBQB. His vision is responsible for the thriving Center, which is recognized by the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

Dai joined the UIC BME Department in 2001 and has had many significant accomplishments as a researcher and scholar. These achievements have brought national and international visibility to UIC, the Bioinformatics programs in BME, and the CBQB in developing statistical and machine learning models to address challenges in the analysis and integration of omics data in the biomedical area.

Dai has also been an outstanding educator and mentor to students at all levels and has undertaken and excelled in other areas of service for the university and for the profession.

She will continue to serve as the associate director of graduate studies in the BME department.

Clinical Assistant Professor Meishan Lin will continue to serve as assistant director. Lin is also an affiliate faculty with CBQB.
