Title: Championing Science: The Role of Biomedical Researchers in Policy

Summary: The executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government play critical roles in shaping the policies that govern and fund the scientific enterprise. Yet, these decisions are often made without meaningful input from the scientific community, despite their significant influence on the research conducted at institutions nationwide. As the intersection of science and policy becomes increasingly complex, the need for scientists to engage in the policymaking process is more urgent than ever. Biomedical researchers are uniquely positioned to inform public policy in ways that not only advance scientific progress but also serve the broader interests of society. This talk will highlight practical avenues for scientists to contribute to policy discussions, provide key resources, and offer strategies for engaging effectively with elected officials and the public as advocates for biomedical research.
